First Alabama Real Estate Conference Set For January At UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The first Alabama Real Estate Conference will offer a lineup of topics sure to pique the interest of anyone in the real estate business.

The conference, which sponsors plan to hold annually, is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the Bryant Conference Center at The University of Alabama. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The conference should conclude about 1:30 p.m.

Following the welcome by Dr. J. Barry Mason, dean of the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration at UA, Leon Harper, consumer affairs specialist for the American Association of Retired Persons, will discuss the “Graying of Alabama and the Implications for Alabama’s Real Estate Markets.”

Frank Altieri, vice president of global real estate for DoubleClick, the Internet’s leading advertising company, will present e-commerce applications for the real estate industry. Meade Whitaker Jr., an attorney and partner at Bradley, Arant, Rose and White LLP, will provide a legal and regulatory update.

Following a break, Jeffrey Bayer, president of Bayer Properties, a major developer of commercial properties, will discuss trends in retail development. David Roberts, president and chief operating officer of Collateral Mortgage Ltd. will present multi-family financing strategies.

Dr. David Berson, vice president and chief economist for Fannie Mae, will give the luncheon address. Berson will present the 2001 state and national economic forecast.

The conference is sponsored by the Alabama Real Estate Research and Education Center.

The Alabama Real Estate Research and Education Center is part of the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, founded in 1919. The business school has been recognized repeatedly in the 1990s for offering high-quality, cost-effective education.
