UA’s O’Neal Elected To National Committee On Planned Giving Board Of Directors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Larry O’Neal, senior development director and assistant to the vice president of advancement at The University of Alabama, has been elected to join the board of directors of the National Committee on Planned Giving (NCPG).

O’Neal was elected at the Assembly of Delegates meeting recently held in the organization’s Indianapolis headquarters. He will begin a three-year term beginning in January. The National Committee on Planned Giving is the professional association for individuals whose work includes developing, marketing, and administering charitable planned gifts, as well as fund-raisers for nonprofit institutions and consultants and donor advisors working in a variety of for-profit settings.

NCPG was formed in 1988 as a federation of planned giving councils to facilitate, coordinate and encourage the education and training of the planned giving community, and to facilitate effective communication among the many different professionals in the community.

In his capacity as a board member, O’Neal will serve as a spokesperson for the organization on varying topics, will travel to and attend various council meetings, and will help local chapters in gaining an understanding of timely topics and events.

Additionally, O’Neal will participate in various projects, serve on specific internal organizational committees and keep abreast of issues affecting the gift planning profession, its constituents and practitioners.

“This is a good opportunity to have Larry in such a visible position among our colleagues in philanthropy,” said Jeff McNeill, vice president for advancement at UA.

“Larry will certainly remind many individuals that The University of Alabama has quality people who do good work for their constituency. Further, Larry represents the University with the highest integrity and quality, and it does not surprise me that this organization chose him to be on its board of directors.”

“This is obviously a great honor, being selected to serve among my peers within the gift planning community,” said O’Neal. “Additionally, it allows me to associate with a diverse representation of gift planning professionals from across the country, including some of America’s largest banks, charitable foundations, medical facilities and institutions of higher education.

“The amount of information and professional contacts will allow The University of Alabama to provide an even greater level of service to our valued donors who faithfully choose to serve our University through their financial generosity.”
