“I continue to receive inquiries about my status as a candidate for chancellor of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I want to clarify my situation.
“While I consider it a great honor to have been nominated for the post, I have asked that my name be withdrawn from consideration. I remain most enthusiastic about the many accomplishments our faculty, staff, students, and alumni have achieved at The University of Alabama. Quality academic programs continue to receive national attention. Our funded research has more than doubled. Student enrollment continues to grow, and we are attracting some of the most academically talented students in the country. I look forward to continued success at The University of Alabama.”
