UA Student Receives Killam Fellowship for Study in Canada

Fulbright Canada has awarded Jordan Sandy, a student at The University of Alabama, a Killam Fellowship to study at The University of British Columbia during the 2015-2016 academic year. Sandy, a Chicago native who is double majoring in economics and English, is a University Fellow and has held membership in the Lambda Sigma Academic Honor Society. He has interned with Creative Campus and worked with SaveFirst, a free tax preparation service for low-income families.

Because of predictions of rain for Monday, Oct. 26, and Tuesday, Oct. 27, The University of Alabama Panhellenic Association is canceling Trick or Treat on Sorority Row on Monday night. The event will not be rescheduled.

UA Music Student’s Composition to be Performed at Carnegie Hall

A composition by Tyler Grant, a student in The University of Alabama’s School of Music, has been selected to be showcased at Carnegie Hall in New York City in April. “Panoramic Landscapes” will be performed by the Scarsdale, New York, High School wind ensemble under the direction of Jason Noble. It is Grant’s first work to be played at Carnegie Hall.

Wood-Based Alternatives in Chemistry Fuel UA Scientific Collaboration

Researchers at The University of Alabama, in collaboration with colleagues in Germany, have developed a new way to use wood or other kinds of biomass to make chemical materials without relying on the usual non-renewable petrochemical starting materials.

UA Honors College Students Perform Service Projects in Marion

About 125 students and 25 student leaders from The University of Alabama Honors College will perform service projects from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 in in Marion as part of the 57 Miles Project.

Birmingham Artist Brings Exhibit To UA

Birmingham artist Carolyn Sherer will be bringing her “Family Matters” exhibit to The University of Alabama’s Ferguson Center Art Gallery on Oct. 20. The exhibit will feature 12 images of self-identified LGBTQ youth as well as a narrative that accompanies each photo that details the subject’s perceptions on family acceptance.
