Whether you’re new to campus or just ready to get back in the swing of things, these August events are a great way to get connected and start the year with some Crimson Tide energy.
Tied with the Tide
For students moving in early, Tied with the Tide is here with nine fun events open to all students to kick off the month. Here are just a few things to look forward to:

International Coffee Hour

Join us for International Coffee Hour, a vibrant gathering where friends from around the world come together over a shared love of coffee, tea and snacks from different parts of the world. Everyone is welcome to share, learn and connect in this warm atmosphere.
Hi, Tide Day!
Thursday, Aug. 20, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Student Center Plaza
Stop by the Student Center Plaza, Presidential Village or the Quad for a free frozen treat and a chance to connect with SGA representatives. Exclusive Hi, Tide Day t-shirts will be available at the Student Center Plaza while supplies last. Students can also wear Hi, Tide name tags throughout the day to spark conversations, make new connections and help create a welcoming campus community.
Super Soaker Capture the Flag
Saturday, Aug. 22, noon-2 p.m., Gorgas House Museum
Cool off at the Gorgas House Museum with a free game of Super Soaker Capture the Flag. Learn about the history of the Super Soaker while teaming up for a high-energy afternoon on campus. Super Soakers will be provided while supplies last, and participants should check in at the Gorgas House table to receive a wristband. The event is free for students and presented in partnership with the Druid Collective.

Kentuck Art Night – August
Wednesday, Aug. 6, 5-8 p.m., Kentuck Art Center
Visitors can enjoy selections from Jahni Moore in the museum gallery and the very popular Kentuck’s Red Dog Potters annual ice cream bowl sale plus a drop-in clay activity for $20. There will also be pop up shops from local vendors.
First Friday
Friday, Aug. 7, 5-8 p.m., Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center
Explore downtown Tuscaloosa by visiting for the First Friday celebrations to see art galleries, enjoy food and drinks and more.
Saturday in the Park: Hoop Dancing with Lyndon Alec
Saturday, Aug. 8, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Moundville Archaeological Park
Visit the Jones Museum for a hoop dancing program with Lyndon Alec of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe demonstrating hoop dancing and sharing more about his tribe’s history. This is a come-and-go event.
