UA Speak Off Winners Announced

The Fall 2016 Speak Off Public Speaking Competition was held Nov. 1 in Morgan Auditorium. Students currently enrolled in COM 123, Public Speaking, had the opportunity to compete with the Informative speech they had prepared and delivered for class. Six students advanced to the finals and the following students won first through third places.

Winning first place and the Oscar Newton Award for Public Speaking with a $200 cash prize was Braidyn Lazenby of Prattville, Alabama. Lazenby is a sophomore majoring in public relations and minoring in communication studies.

In second place with a $150 cash prize was Garrett Shotts of Meridianville, Alabama. Shotts is a sophomore majoring in telecommunication and film with a media production concentration, and minoring in creative writing.

In third place with a $75 cash prize was Jack Royer of Mountain Brook, Alabama. Royer is also a sophomore majoring in telecommunication and film with a concentration in electronic news sequence, and minoring in communication studies.
