Slate of Activities Planned to Honor, Support Veterans

A concert of patriotic music will play at noon on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

The week of Nov. 5-11 offers several opportunities for the UA community to support and celebrate our military veterans, especially those among our students, faculty and staff. Below is a list of events, some with registration deadlines. For more information, visit the UA Office of Veteran and Military Affairs.

Tuscaloosa Run for Veterans
Nov. 5, 8 a.m., Government Plaza

The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Veterans Affairs Committee will host the first Tuscaloosa Run for Veterans to provide support to local charities including the Tuscaloosa Veterans Memorial Park, the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Homeless Shelter and The University of Alabama/Shelton State Community College Emergency Relief Fund, which provides assistance to veteran students in dire financial need. One hundred percent of entry fees will go toward these organizations. Online registration is $20.

Celebration of Service
Nov. 10, 5 p.m., Smith Hall

In conjunction with Army ROTC, the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs will be honoring all veteran faculty and staff and Army ROTC Alumni. Registration is free for all UA veteran faculty and staff and their family members. Those veteran faculty and staff and Army ROTC alumni planning to attend should RSVP by Nov. 4.

Walk of Champions
Nov. 10, 6-9 p.m., steps of Bryant-Denny Stadium

Veteran and Military Affairs students will use luminaries to create an American flag on the steps of the stadium as a reminder that Friday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day.

Tuscaloosa Veterans Day Ceremony
Nov. 11, 10 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park

The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs will be participating with the City of Tuscaloosa in the Tuscaloosa Veterans Day Ceremony. Transportation to Veterans Memorial Park will be provided from Houser Hall at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and return at 11 a.m. Students, staff and faculty who are interested in transportation should RSVP by Nov. 4.

Denny Chimes Concert
Nov. 11, noon, the Quad

Denny Chimes will play selections of patriotic music at noon on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.
