Researcher to Discuss Teaching Life Skills in UA Lecture

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Michael A. Hemphill, an expert in physical education, will detail a new method for teaching life skills through sport in a lecture Monday, Oct. 24, at The University of Alabama.

Hemphill, assistant professor of sport pedagogy at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, will deliver “Responsibility-based professional development: New directions for teaching life skills in youth sports” at 3 p.m. in 118 Graves Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Hemphill’s research focuses on teaching personal and social responsibility through sport, physical activity and physical education, with specific applications to urban communities and professional development programs for physical activity providers. Hemphill has published several research articles in refereed journals, including Journal of Teaching in Physical Education; The Physical Educator;European Physical Education Review; Physical Education & Sport Pedagogy; and Sport, Education, and Society.
