UA’s CC&IS Maintains Accreditation

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama maintained its accreditation by the AEJMC – the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

“The College of Communication and Information Sciences is dedicated to remaining at the forefront of the changing world of mass communication,” said Dr. Mark Nelson, dean of the College of Communication and Information Sciences. “The College’s reaccreditation by the AEJMC affirms those efforts and reflects the quality of the curriculum and instruction C&IS provides.

“The review team was particularly impressed with our facilities and the credentials of our dedicated faculty and staff,” Nelson said.

Founded in 1912, the AEJMC is the oldest and largest alliance of journalism and mass communication educators and administrators at the college level. The nonprofit organization promotes the highest possible standards for journalism and mass communication education.

Accreditation by the AEJMC is a voluntary process that includes an external review of a school’s ability to provide quality programs to ensure that students are learning relevant material the right way.

The rigorous accreditation process includes assessment of curriculum, faculty, administration, students, facilities and resources. A six-person site team consisting of educators and professionals visited the College in February. While on campus, the team met with faculty, staff, students, and administrators both one-on-one and in town hall meetings.

The recommendation for reaccreditation was made to the National Accrediting Committee earlier this month, and official notification of reaccreditation was received May 20.
