University of Alabama students create their own comic book company

For more than a year, Ethan Newsome-Jackson and Kris Pearce have been obsessed with the same woman. She only exists on paper, but for the two University of Alabama students, creating the character in the upcoming comic book “Breeze” has been grueling, mainly in how to present the heroine’s duality. “She’s very care-free, where she enjoys all kinds of things, but she lives in a very dark world,” Newsome-Jackson said during a recent work session with Pearce at The Comic Store on Hargrove Road. “She actually gets through it and keeps her sense of humor about it.”

Electronic voting for Alabama’s service members deployed or living abroad

Good news for Alabama service members. The state is the first to allow folks serving our country to return their vote electronically. For former Army Ranger Jason Sellars, this voting tool gives new importance to his deployment. Sellars is now the assistant director for Veteran and Military Affairs at The University of Alabama.

University of Alabama fans asked to wear blue for “Blue Out Diabetes”

Basketball fans are encouraged to wear blue for the second annual “Blue Out Diabetes” event tonight when Alabama plays Texas A&M at Coleman Coliseum. Blue is the color representing global diabetes awareness. The “Blue Out Diabetes” is sponsored by the Tuscaloosa County Diabetes Coalition, Sanofi, UA Student Diabetes Education Team, the University Medical Center, DCH Diabetes Education Center, Novo Nordisk and others to raise diabetes awareness.

UA Theatre & Dance partnership brings world premiere of Broadway musical ‘The Countess of Storyville’ to Tuscaloosa

Tuscaloosa will be hosting the world premiere for an all-new Broadway musical, ‘The Countess of Storyville!’ This special engagement is being made possible thanks to a development partnership between UA Theatre & Dance and Margot Astrachan. This is a big deal for town know for winning sports championships to also host world-class arts, like this new musical being developed in T-Town! It’s an amazing opportunity for UA students to work hand and hand with Broadway performers.

Scarlett Walker takes the stage at Alabama

You may remember Scarlett Walker as Miss Alabama Outstanding Teen 2010 or as Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama 2012. Now a senior at the University of Alabama, the Oak Mountain High School graduate has taken her talent to the theatre as an actress. From Feb. 16-20, Walker will take the stage alongside Broadway and other professional actors in the UA Theatre and Dance presentation of “The Countess of Storyville.”
