UA to Host Engineering Professional Development Student Conference

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama American Society of Mechanical Engineers student section will host the Southeast District F Student Professional Development Conference April 3-5.

The purpose of the ASME student conference is to provide a forum to train officers and future leaders, create networking opportunities, supply a forum for technology transfer, and host competitions.

Activities include an oral presentations, technical posters, Web page designs, and student design competitions. In addition, a design exposition will be added as a new event. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in Hardaway Hall.

More than 150 students from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and parts of Tennessee and South Carolina will participate.

In 1837, UA became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering, with about 2,300 students and more than 100 faculty, is one of the three oldest continuously operating engineering programs in the country and has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
