UA’s Kappa Delta Sorority Hosts 26th Annual 5K Shamrock Run for RISE and Crossing Points

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s Kappa Delta Sorority will hold its 26th annual 5K Shamrock Run for RISE and Crossing Points at UA Feb. 28.

Last year Kappa Delta raised more than $25,000 with the run.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Gene Stallings Center on University Boulevard with the run starting at 10 a.m. The cost is $20 and includes a t-shirt. This year’s event will include children’s activities including a moon bounce.

RISE is a comprehensive program for children with disabilities residing in the Tuscaloosa and West Alabama area. The children range in age from birth to 6. The students who attend RISE not only include those diagnosed with a variety of developmental delays, but also children without delays. Kappa Delta members volunteer with the RISE program weekly.

Crossing Points is a collaboration between The University of Alabama and the Tuscaloosa City and County school systems. It serves as a transition place for students with disabilities in the Tuscaloosa and West Alabama area.

Participants at Crossing Points range in age from 18 to 21. The program is designed to teach students skills to become more independent and to obtain employment. Kappa Delta along with Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity hosts a prom for the Crossing Points participants each year.
