UA Engineering Student Wins ANS Scholarship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lauren Hall, a junior majoring in chemical and biological engineering, recently received the American Nuclear Society Undergraduate Award for an undergraduate student pursuing nuclear science and engineering studies.

A Tuscaloosa native, Hall was presented with an award certificate and check in the amount of $2,000 at the UA student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ welcome back reception.

Hall is also a 2005 National Academy for Nuclear Training scholarship recipient. She is the secretary of UA’s AIChE chapter and the vice president of the Organization for Developing Leadership. Additionally, Hall is a member of the Society of Women Engineers and Future Alumni for Tradition and Excellence.

The ANS is a not-for-profit, international, scientific and educational organization. It serves its members in their efforts to develop and safely apply nuclear science and technology for public benefit through knowledge exchange, professional development, and enhanced public understanding.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering has about 1,800 students and more than 95 faculty. It has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
