UA Students Can Now Experience Virtual Advising

TUSCALOOSA Ala. — Learning about degree requirements, class schedules and campus technology just got easier for students at The University of Alabama.

The staff at the UA Center for Teaching and Learning has developed the Virtual Advising Web site at http://www.ctl.ua.edu/advising/ to provide a convenient resource that will help students locate information and provide answers to many of their questions.

There is a tremendous amount of information about UA available on the Internet, but often students do not know how to go about accessing that information, or do not know that answers to many of their questions are available online.

The Virtual Advising Web site provides Internet links to Web sites dealing with UA Undergraduate Programs and courses of study, academic matters, money, technology, student services and student life. There are also links to the advising offices of the undergraduate colleges, and answers to frequently asked questions. More than 130 links to UA Web sites are accessible from one convenient Web page.

The Virtual Advising Web site can be especially useful to beginning students who may just be learning their way around the University and may be lacking the knowledge that comes from experience. Additionally, from the CTL Virtual Advising Web site, first semester freshmen students can give feedback on their UA experience by completing the Freshmen Student Questionnaire. Freshmen students who complete the Questionnaire become eligible for a random drawing for a spring semester book scholarship.

The Virtual Advising Web site can also be beneficial to parents, who will find that it contains many links that will answer questions about their student’s experiences at UA. The Virtual Advising Web site has been designed to become a highly useful resource that the entire University community can use. Students will find the Virtual Advising Web site to be a beneficial resource that eases their transition into life at UA.

The mission of the UA Center for Teaching and Learning is to design and deliver academic support services to the entire university community, but most importantly, to undergraduate students. The Center provides these services in formats that are convenient and easily accessible to students. This goal is in keeping with the University’s emphasis on being a student-centered research university and in providing students with a multitude of resources to help them achieve academic success and to have a positive academic experience.
