UA’s Rural Medical Scholars Program Accepting Applications

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Rural Medical Scholars Program (RMSP) at The University of Alabama will interview eligible applicants in June for the 2000 class that begins in August.

College seniors and graduate pre-med students with rural Alabama backgrounds who are interested in practicing medicine in a rural area of the state are eligible for

RMSP. Admission to the program is based on high academic achievement, character, and leadership qualities. Rural Medical Scholars combine their senior year or a year of graduate study with RMSP’s focused study in primary care, community medicine, and rural health issues. The Rural Medical Scholars receive early admission to The University of Alabama School of Medicine and begin medical school in July, 2000.

To apply, students must complete and submit the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application (access the computer form via the Internet at WWW.AAMC.ORG/Stuaaps/ after April 1st) and mail a copy of AMCAS application with the RMSP application form, a passport size photo, and three letters of recommendation (from a science professor, physician, and personal reference) before May 22.
